(DVD Case)Levels,Overlay.

Levels
As I am creating a sci-fi influenced poster I wanted to add a artificial effect to my image background so if you where to look at sci-fi movies like Armageddon and star wars you would see that these movie trailers are rich in contrast and are blatant in displaying the artificial attributes of the image. To do this I used the levels option which can be found on right panel , This consists of two colors that can be adjusted to your needs . Making it easy for me to find the right shade that I wanted for my poster

Colour overlay

Once I had finished adjusting the levels I then wanted to make my layer more transparent. The reason being I had used the levels option to make my image contrast stronger ,This is what I wanted but the image contrast was stronger than I anticipated so I decided to adjust the opacity in the color overlay, To do this I used the Color Overlay option  found in the layer style section. which had an opacity adjuster that helped me find the type of grade I wanted for my image which was 30 percent. The great feature about the Color overlay option is that you can manipulate the image and get previews of the image before you make a decision. Making it easier to find the desired opacity.

Placing/Layers
the first thing I wanted to do was to place my image which would be my background. To do this I first went to place image and then picked the image I wanted to place , then I made sure it was the right size then confirmed .The reason I wanted this background was because it had all the charctoristics of  a sci-fi movie I needed as you can see the middle of the DVD replicates a black hole.

The next layer that I placed was my project logo reason I added this logo is because I wanted to trademark my brand so that me as the developer would be recognized for my work.I placed this image at the very bottom of my DVD canvas. Once the image was placed I then had to move the layers around so that the logo would be placed on top of the background.

When my image was placed I then had to blend the image into place the reason I wanted to blend this image in was because I wanted the image to coexist  with its surroundings . To perform this I used the brush tool which can be found on the left panel and when you select it you can then brush what ever you like in any form or pattern, which gave me the tear effect that I was looking for. This then erased the parts I didn't want and helped me blend my image in as natural as possible.

The second image that I placed on my label was the DVD logo created by DVD Forum that is used to distinguish CD formats since I am making a DVD this had to be projected in my label.Once the logo was perfectly placed I then wanted to add the same effect my background had to the DVD logo because I wanted to stick to one theme. To do this I went into the image properties and then I was given the option to adjust the way the image had been projected.Being one of my most challenging tasks This then lead me to you tube. where I watched photoshop cs6 tutorial videos that taught me how to add the blur effect that I needed to imitate the distraught background I had in place.

(DVD Label)TextWrap,Clipping Mask,Pen tool,Type, Place,Transparency.

Text Wrap
When designing my label I decided it would be a great feature to add a title that blended with the DVD shape because if the title was straight uncurved font this would look like a copy and paste job . To do this I used the text wrap option which allowed me to manipulate the shape and form of my font. The available options consisted of an arch shape ,flag shape, fish shape and default shape. the shape that I used was the arch shape, once I had selected this format I then placed it perfectly inside my DVD guide and saved my work.

The next feature that I  added to my title was a clipping mask. The reason I added the clipping mask was to carry the black hole poster theme through to my DVD label. To execute this feature I had to place a copy of my black hole background in my layers and then use the clipping option to clip the background into the font. This was a challenging task, so to help me perform this I used How-To-GEEK (http://www.howtogeek.com/57159/how-to-use-clipping-masks-in-photoshop/) that then gave me the valuable information I Needed

Pen Tool
The first idea I had when designing my logo was to have a shatterd effect Because I feel every project should be based on a theme and for this project my theme is distruction.so I decided to make my font out of shatterd glass. To acomplish this I first had to figure out a way to  convoy this effect. So I decided to use the pen tool , this tool allowed me to make shapes using a dotted mark ups.The shapes I then started to create where triangles, I then repeated this shape numerous times each triangle being a different size.

Place Image
The next step  was to visit google where I found an font editor that had a font type that had lines. That almost imitated the shatter effect that I was looking for.Once i was happy with my findings I then downloaded the image and uploaded it into my photoshop illustrator workspace.

Type Tool
When I finished uploading my Image into the photoshop illustrator, I then had to position the words into my artificial glass drawings. I was very happy with the final look. The only thing I was missing was a productions label at the bottom . I needed this to show customers the production company responsible for the content they where viewing. So to do this i used the type tool and used the arial font and the placed it under the shatterboxx in a smaller font.

Transparencies
Once my logo was complete I noticed the features in my image where too strong  .So to make my features weaker and more natural I used the transparencey /opacity tool.To do this I had to alter the opacity from hundred to forty. This then gave my image the natural look I was looking for before I chose the level, I  first experimented with the other levels and at the end I found forty to be the most natural for the image I had in place.
